Acuron® Flexi corn herbicide receives EPA registration for 2016 season

  • Acuron Flexi combines three active ingredients, including bicyclopyrone, and two complementary modes of action
  • Signals step-change for growers looking for a flexible weed management program
GREENSBORO, N.C., USA, – Growers looking to control their toughest weeds with flexibility will have access to Acuron® Flexi corn herbicide from Syngenta, now that it has received registration from the federal EPA.

The flexibility from Acuron Flexi is significant as weed resistance is expanding and weeds are becoming increasingly difficult to manage in various geographies. Acuron Flexi features three active ingredients, including bicyclopyrone, and two modes of action to deliver a multi-targeted approach to control tough weeds. Bicyclopyrone provides burndown plus residual, which delivers improved and more consistent control of large-seeded broadleaf weeds in corn.

“With glyphosate weed resistance expanding, growers need a robust product that can be used across different geographies and soil types,” said Gordon Vail, technical product lead, Syngenta. “Acuron Flexi delivers the flexibility growers need by allowing for application from 28 days pre-plant up to 30-inch corn.”

What makes this herbicide so unique is its geographic, application, tank-mix, rotational and corn-crop flexibility. Acuron Flexi will be able to be used without geographic or soil type restrictions and can be mixed with AAtrex®, Touchdown® or other herbicides based on farming practices.

In addition to better performance on difficult weeds, growers in certain areas of the Corn Belt, particularly parts of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, will find this product especially appealing since they are limited from using atrazine because of carryover.

“This season, growers from all over Minnesota visited the Grow More Experience Site on my farm,” said Ryan Lins, Syngenta R&D scientist from Minnesota. “They were very excited to see that Acuron Flexi continued to control problem weeds late into the season. The flexibility we get with Acuron Flexi fills a gap for growers in this area that other herbicides are missing.”

Acuron Flexi will control a broad-spectrum of broadleaf weeds and annual grasses, including the following resistant weed biotypes: giant foxtail, barnyardgrass, common cocklebur, common ragweed, Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and giant ragweed.

“Syngenta developed Acuron corn herbicide to put farmers back in control of tough weeds competitors are missing,” said Vail. “In 2015, its first year on the market, Acuron proved to be a step-change in weed management. Acuron Flexi will continue that momentum by helping growers control their tough weeds with added flexibility.”

State registrations for Acuron Flexi are still pending. For more information about Acuron Flexi herbicide, visit the www.syngentaUS.com/AcuronFlexi. Join the conversation online – connect with us at social.SyngentaUS.com.
