Prepare for the unexpected, Syngenta tells Northern Plains growers

  •  Growers can prepare for unforeseen weather conditions through diverse hybrid selection
  • Syngenta offers a broad portfolio of Golden Harvest® Corn hybrids to help start the season strong
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA,– Although 2015 brought good growing conditions and above average yields, Syngenta agronomists caution corn growers in North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming against planning for a repeat season. In order to maximize yields in 2016, they advise growers to select a range of hybrids to ensure success no matter what the weather brings.

“Some hybrids perform better in excess-moisture conditions. The reverse is true of others,” said Tom Schmit a Syngenta product development agronomist. The best approach is to plant a mix of hybrids with genetic diversity to put growers in a winning position regardless of what Mother Nature decides to do.

“The Northern Plains experienced weather that was conducive to high yields in 2015, but that may not be the case again this year, said Schmit. “Managing for the unexpected and diversifying hybrid selection will help maximize yields regardless of the weather.”

Syngenta offers a broad portfolio of Golden Harvest® Corn hybrids tailored to different environments, soil types and growing conditions. Some key hybrids for area growers to consider for 2016 include:
  • G94B95-5222 E-Z Refuge® brand: Containing the Agrisure Duracade® 5222 trait stack, which has a unique mode of action for best-in-class corn rootworm control, G94B95-5222 E-Z Refuge brand offers top-end yield with excellent grain quality and a heavy test weight.1 The hybrid has very good drought tolerance and Goss’s wilt tolerance, which makes this a strong choice for the Northern Plains.
  • G01P52-3122A brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, G01P52-3122A brand helps growers manage the unpredictability of weather by maximizing yield when it rains and increasing yield when it doesn’t.
  • G07B39-3111A brand: Also an Artesian™ hybrid, G07B39-3111A brand offers top- end yield potential for highly managed acres, as well as strong emergence and seedling vigor. Containing the Agrisure Viptera® 3111 trait stack, it also delivers high-quality grain by controlling above- and below-ground insect pests.
“With Golden Harvest Corn, we aim to help growers achieve high yields by placing hybrids matched to their fields,” said Tim O’Brien, Ph.D., Golden Harvest Corn product manager at Syngenta. “By using a unique pool of corn genetics – and adding breakthrough traits and technologies – the diverse Syngenta portfolio of hybrids provides growers options to unleash the potential of each field and finish with strong yields year in and year out.”

1Agrisure Duracade is fully approved for sale in the U.S. and Canada, and for export to most major importers of U.S. corn. Import approval in China and the European Union is still pending, and therefore grain with the Agrisure Duracade trait should be directed to end uses that do not export grain.
