Syngenta encourages Missouri growers to get ahead of weather with diverse corn hybrid selection

  • Growing a package of diverse locally adapted hybrids will help maximize overall yields regardless of conditions
  • Golden Harvest® Corn offers a broad portfolio of diverse genetics to help growers select the best hybrid for each field
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA,  – While excessive rainfall last season may persuade growers to brace for a repeat this year, Syngenta agronomists in Missouri recommend that corn growers instead prepare for less extreme weather in 2016. Diversify hybrids to spread risk and maximize yields regardless of the weather next season.

“Through diversification, growers can take their yields from good to great and avoid relying on one product to make or break the season,” said Scott Gard, product development agronomist at Syngenta. Golden Harvest® Corn hybrids are tailored for each field’s individual needs and, with a broad portfolio, allow growers to be prepared for any conditions.

“Avoid placing all eggs in one basket,” said Gard. “Selecting a range of hybrids will help maximize overall yields no matter if the weather is as wet as it was last season, or otherwise.”

Key hybrids for 2016 include:
  • G07B39-3111A brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, G07B39-3111A brand maximizes yield when it rains and increases yield when it doesn’t, providing top-end yield in virtually any production environment. In addition, this hybrid includes the Agrisure Viptera® trait, delivering high-quality grain through the industry’s best comprehensive above-ground insect control.
  • G10S30-3220 brand: Great for highly productive management systems, G10S30-3220 brand has dependable emergence and exceptional seedling vigor for early planting. This hybrid also includes the Agrisure Viptera trait for above-ground insect protection.
  • G14R38-3000GT brand: G14R38- 3000GT brand has proven strong emergence and solid root and stalk strength, and it performs well on continuous corn acres. Hybrids with the Agrisure® 3000GT trait stack provide protection against pests such as corn borer and corn rootworm.
“With Golden Harvest Corn, we aim to help growers achieve high yields by placing hybrids matched to their fields,” said Tim O’Brien, Ph.D., Golden Harvest Corn product manager at Syngenta. “By using a unique pool of corn genetics – and adding breakthrough traits and technologies – the diverse Syngenta portfolio of hybrids provides growers options to unleash the potential of each field and finish with strong yields year in and year out.”
