Illinois, Iowa growers advised to plan for varying environmental conditions

  • Corn ear molds and sudden death syndrome challenged many area  growers in 2016
  • Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer a range of agronomic solutions for any field
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, – For many Iowa and Illinois growers, late-season diseases such as sudden death syndrome (SDS) and corn ear molds threatened 2016 yields. Although no two seasons are the same, Syngenta agronomists recommend that growers prepare for the unpredictability of 2017 by planting hybrids and varieties with proven performance against these a range of challenges.

“SDS and corn ear molds were no joke for many growers in the area last year,” said Rich Lee, a Syngenta product development agronomist in Iowa. “Growers can’t predict what the season will bring – so why not have a little extra yield insurance?”

With broad portfolios, Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer agronomic solutions for any field.

Golden Harvest combines advanced genetics with industry-leading Agrisure® traits to help each field grow strong, while the local expertise and agronomic resources of a Golden Harvest Seed Advisor™ help to maximize yields. Some of the key hybrids for area growers to consider in 2017 are:
  • G07F23-3111 brand: With theAgrisure Viptera® trait, G07F23-3111 brand provides more control of more insects for more yield potential. Agrisure Viptera helps to protect from ear-feeding insects, which can help reduce the development of ear molds and deliver higher-quality grain.
  • G12W66-3000GT brand: A consistent performer across soil types, G12W66-3000GT has outstanding stalks and strong roots for late-season standability. Featuring the Agrisure 3000GT trait stack, it offers protection against corn borer and corn rootworm.
NK Soybeans offer growers a high-tech portfolio created using a complex analytics system of research and development, providing industry-leading genetics for unique field challenges. Key varieties for Iowa and Illinois growers to consider include:
  • S27-J7 brand: Broadly adapted across soil types, S27-J7 brand has strong emergence for a quick start at planting. The variety rates high for SDS resistance.
  • S30-V6 brand: Rated high for both Phytophthora root rot field tolerance and SDS resistance, S30-V6 brand offers top-end performance across all environments.
“Helping the grower optimize performance is our top priority,” said Todd McRoberts, product development agronomy manager at Syngenta. “Through a diverse portfolio of hybrids and varieties with strong agronomic backing, growers have the ability to maximize their yields season after season.”
