Missouri growers advised to plan for possibility of late-season disease pressure in 2017

  • After experiences of 2016, Syngenta agronomists suggest preparing for varying field conditions
  • Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer a range of agronomic solutions for any field
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA – Missouri corn and soybean growers weathered serious late-season disease pressure in 2016. Although this season may or may not bring more of the same, Syngenta agronomists are recommending that growers still prepare for the possibility by selecting corn hybrids and soybean varieties rated high for disease tolerance.

“When selecting seed, growers have an opportunity to get ahead of Mother Nature,” said Scott Gard, a Syngenta product development agronomist in Missouri. “Following a year of heavy disease pressure from the likes of ear mold in corn and frogeye leaf spot in soybeans, it’s important to plan ahead and choose hybrids and varieties that will maximize the chance of end-of-year success.”

With broad portfolios,Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer agronomic solutions for any field.

Golden Harvest combines advanced genetics with industry-leading Agrisure® traits to help each field grow strong, while the local expertise and agronomic resources of a Golden Harvest Seed Advisor™ help to maximize yields. Some of the key hybrids for Missouri growers to consider in 2017 are:
  • G07F23-3111 brand: Noted for its consistent performance, G07F23-3111 brand has excellent stalk and root strength, helping to preserve late-season standability. It features the Agrisure Viptera® trait, which provides more control of more insects for more yield potential. Protection from these insects, like corn earworm, help to protect the ears from diseases that are caused by insect damage and preserve the grain quality.
  • G07B39-3111A brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, G07B39-3111A brand maximizes yield when it rains and increases yield when it doesn't. The hybrid also has strong emergence and seedling vigor to allow for early planting, and features the Agrisure Viptera trait.
NK Soybeans offer growers a high-tech portfolio created using a complex analytics system of research and development, providing industry-leading genetics for unique field challenges. Key varieties for Missouri growers to consider include:
  • S35-C3 brand: In addition to providing sudden death syndrome (SDS) tolerance, S35-C3 brand offers good field tolerance to Phytophthora root rot. It is a top choice for rugged, stress-prone soils.
  • S39-C4 brand: Featuring built-in resistance to SDS, S39-C4 brand provides the genetic protection Missouri growers need if late-disease pressure rears its head again. Outstanding stress tolerance adds to the variety’s yield stability.

“Helping the grower optimize performance is our top priority,” said Todd McRoberts, product development agronomy manager at Syngenta. “Through a diverse portfolio of hybrids and varieties with strong agronomic backing, growers have the ability to maximize their yields season after season.”
