Plains growers advised to prepare for the unpredictable with proper corn, soybean seed decisions

  • The right seeds combined with the right management practices can help growers maximize yields, even if 2017 again delivers a wet planting season
  • Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer a range of agronomic solutions for any field
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA – It’s no secret that growers in Kansas and Nebraska experienced unusually wet conditions early into the 2016 growing season. Although there is no way to know for sure what 2017 will bring, Syngenta agronomists recommend that growers get ahead of any potential challenges that could threaten yields.

“Proper planting conditions can make all the difference, but Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate,” said David Schlake, a Syngenta product development agronomist in Nebraska. “In case we see conditions similar to 2016, growers should do what they can now to head off issues like sidewall compaction, root lodging and green snap. Maximize end-of-year success with a combination of smart seed selection and management practices.”

With broad portfolios, Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer agronomic solutions for any field.

Golden Harvest combines advanced genetics with industry-leading Agrisure® traits to help each field grow strong, while the local expertise and agronomic resources of a Golden Harvest Seed Advisor™ help to maximize yields. Some of the key hybrids for Kansas and Nebraska growers to consider in 2017 are:
  • G12W66-3000GT brand: Rated high for green snap protection, Golden Harvest hybrid G12W66-3000GT brand is a consistent performer across all soil types. This hybrid also has excellent grain quality and test weight for Plains growers.
  • G14R38-3122 E-Z Refuge® brand: Golden Harvest hybrid G14R38-3122 E-Z Refuge is also rated high for green snap resistance. In addition, G14R38-3122 E-Z Refuge brand boasts superb root strength and proven stalk strength and is an excellent choice for continuous corn acres.
NK Soybeans offer growers a high-tech portfolio created using a complex analytics system of research and development, providing industry-leading genetics for unique field challenges. Key varieties for eastern Corn Belt growers to consider include:
  • S28-N6 brand: Featuring stress tolerance for solid performance across many geographies, S28-N6 brand is a great option for growers in the Central Plains. This variety also provides strong Phytophthora root rot field tolerance and Sclerotinia white mold resistance.
  • S39-C4 brand: In addition to strong standability, S39-C4 brand also provides excellent sudden death syndrome resistance and exceptional adaptation across all row widths.
“Helping the grower optimize performance is our top priority,” said Todd McRoberts, product development agronomy manager at Syngenta. “Through a diverse portfolio of hybrids and varieties with strong agronomic backing, growers have the ability to maximize their yields season after season.”
