Enogen® Feed hybrids energize beef rations, improve profit potential

  • Hybrids help provide more value in the field and the feed
  • Fed as grain or silage, enhances starch availability and increases available energy
  • Excellent yield potential across various soil types and conditions

MINNETONKA, Minn., USA - November 9, 2017Enogen® Feed corn hybrids from Syngenta, fed as grain or silage, can help feedlot operators improve profit potential by providing increased energy availability to cattle.

“Enogen Feed grain and silage offers a step-change in starch and sugar availability in the digestive process,” said Duane Martin, commercial traits product lead, Syngenta. “By converting starch to sugar more efficiently and rapidly, it enables an increase in available energy.”

Energy is a key component to maximizing beef production, and corn is an important energy source because it supplies starch, which is converted to sugar that ultimately delivers growth in feeder cattle.

Studies conducted by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln have shown rations with Enogen Feed corn (fed as dry-rolled corn):

  • Increase the potential for a higher percentage of post-ruminal starch digestibility
  • Increase total tract digestibility of starch
  • Decrease fecal output of starch, which indicates increased starch digestibility and better utilization

Martin added, “A high-quality ration that maximizes the use of available starch will help maximize energy. More available energy means greater profit potential for feedlot operations.”

In addition to providing a benefit in the feed, Enogen Feed hybrids also offer benefits for crop production. With proven genetics and traits, Enogen Feed hybrids can deliver excellent in-field performance – equal to or exceeding that of other high-performing corn hybrids1 – with no additional agronomic management challenges2 unlike some silage-specific hybrids. Additionally, growers have the flexibility to chop for silage or harvest for grain.

Producers can incorporate Enogen Feed hybrids into their operations by replacing the corn or silage currently grown and complying with basic stewardship requirements.
