Wisconsin growers advised to plan for the unexpected in 2017

MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, – Wisconsin corn and soybean growers faced a range of agronomic challenges last season, from the predictable (planting in variable soil types) to the less predictable (the enduring threat of Sclerotinia white mold in soybeans). Although 2017 may present its own unique challenges, Syngenta agronomists remind growers they can still plan for the unexpected.

“Nothing can stop Mother Nature from bringing fresh hurdles from year to year, but if growers go into the season armed with excellent genetics matched to each field and a solid management plan, they’ll have a whole lot less to worry about at harvest,” said Steve Wilkens, a Syngenta product development agronomist in Wisconsin.

With broad portfolios of hybrids and varieties, Golden Harvest® Corn and NK® Soybeans offer agronomic solutions for any field.

Golden Harvest combines advanced genetics with industry-leading Agrisure® traits and technologies to help each field grow strong, while the local expertise and agronomic resources of a Golden Harvest Seed Advisor™ help to maximize yields. Some of the key hybrids for Wisconsin growers to consider in 2017 are:
  • G90Y04-3220A E-Z Refuge® brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, G90Y04-3220A E-Z Refuge brand maximizes yield when it rains and helps increase yield when it doesn't. The hybrid performs well in variable and highly productive soils – beneficial considering Wisconsin’s diverse soil types.
  • G98L17-3000GT brand: Another strong option for variable soil types, G98L17-3000GT brand is a broadly adapted hybrid with strong stalks and excellent late-season plant health with consistent performance.
NK Soybeans offer growers a high-tech portfolio created using a complex analytics system of research and development, providing industry-leading genetics for unique field challenges. Key varieties for Wisconsin growers to consider include:
  • S14-A6 brand: Boasting strong emergence and standability on variable soils, S14-A6 brand also features a solid soybean cyst nematode package.
  • S20-T6 brand: Setting the industry standard for Sclerotinia white mold resistance, S20-T6 brand is also highly rated for sudden death syndrome resistance and iron deficiency chlorosis tolerance.
“Helping the grower optimize performance is our top priority,” said Todd McRoberts, product development agronomy manager at Syngenta. “Through a diverse portfolio of hybrids and varieties with strong agronomic backing, growers have the ability to maximize their yields season after season.”
