Important reminder from Syngenta on Avid® miticide 24(c) Special Local Needs registration

  • After June 30, 2017, Superintendents can no longer use Avid EC miticide/insecticide on golf course greens under the 24(c) Special Local Needs (SLN) registration
  • In response to a request from the EPA, Syngenta voluntarily canceled the Avid 24(c) SLN registration on June 30, 2016
  • The cancellation does not affect the Avid Section 3 label for use on landscape ornamentals
GREENSBORO, N.C., USA - Syngenta is issuing a reminder to superintendents that after June 30, 2017, Avid® 0.15 EC miticide/insecticide may no longer be used under the 24(c) Special Local Needs (SLN) registration for nematode management on golf course greens. Syngenta previously communicated the voluntary cancellation of the Avid 24(c) SLN registration in turf with the Environmental Protection Agency in May 2016.  Superintendents can continue using Avid on golf course greens for nematodes under the 24(c) SLN through June 30, 2017.

The cancellation affects the use of Avid on golf course greens to control nematodes in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The cancellation does not affect the availability of Avid for use on ornamental plants, which is still being produced and used under its current Section 3 federal registration.

Syngenta recently launched Divanem™ nematicide, an enhanced formulation of Avid, and it is presently labeled for use in 47 states.

“With Divanem, we are bringing superintendents the next level of nematode control, while continuing to provide the proven chemistry they trust,” said Gregg Wisniewski, insecticide brand manager for turf, ornamentals and pest management at Syngenta.

Divanem delivers:
  • Broad-spectrum control of nematodes, including sting, lance and root-knot
  • Enhanced drought tolerance and quicker recovery from stress
  • Quick movement into the soil where nematodes are most active
  • Improved root system quality and mass
  • Excellent turf quality at low use rates on greens, tees and fairways on all turf types
  • Additional turf quality benefits when combined with Heritage Action™ fungicide
