Illinois grower wins soybean yield contest for second year in a row with NK® variety from Syngenta

NK variety yielded 103.46 bu/A in Illinois Soybean Association Yield Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., USA, March 21, 2019
– Illinois grower Dan Luepkes recently found himself in a familiar position, as his soybeans secured the highest yields in back-to-back years of the Illinois Soybean Association Yield Challenge’s North Regional Group 1 division. Luepkes, who farms in Oregon, Illinois, took home the 2018 win with NK® S30-M9X brand from Syngenta, yielding 103.46 bushels per acre (bu/A).

The victory came a year after Luepkes placed first in the same district with NK S27-M8X brand yielding 95.32 bu/A.

Going into 2018, he had one thing on his mind when choosing the right variety: yield potential. With a combined recommendation from NK sales rep Mike Friedlund and seed dealer Melisa Yocum, Luepkes was able to find a variety that fit his yield goal and preferred management tactics.

“It’s all about finding the right product for the right acres for the right grower,” said Friedlund. “You have to consider both the management style and the environment in which it will be placed. Having good knowledge of Dan’s field and S30-M9X brand’s reputation as a strong product with great top-end yield potential, we felt really good about going with that variety.”

All NK soybeans are developed from one of the industry’s largest and most diverse germplasm pools, offering varieties for a broad range of soil, weather and other environmental conditions. Despite facing a challenging amount of moisture in the second half of the growing season, S30-M9X brand yielded 103.46 bu/A on his farm, well above the 2018 Illinois average of 65 bu/A reported by the USDA.

“We were hopeful that this variety would perform, and it’s nice to win again,” said Luepkes. “It shows that your hard work pays off.”
