Pasco vegetable seed processing facility expansion

Syngenta has invested more than $3 million to better meet the needs of vegetable growers with an expansion of its seed processing facility in Pasco, Wash. The improvements, which will be complete for the 2014 season, include an expanded seed quality testing lab and an in-house seed treatment facility.

The new quality lab improves turn time and accuracy for vegetable seed testing and the investment in seed application equipment enables Syngenta to broaden the use of its FarMore Technology platform, an on-seed application of separately registered seed protection products and proprietary application technologies, on different vegetable varieties.

The Pasco facility, originally built in 2009 on a 40-acre site, employs state-of-the-art technology, including advanced sweet corn dryers and a conditioned warehouse, to provide customers with the highest quality vegetable seeds. The facility is also Good Seed and Plant Practices (GSPP) accredited, adhering to strict hygiene and safety protocols that significantly reduce the risk of Clavibacter michiganensis (Cmm) infection in tomato seeds

FarMore F300 utilizes the active ingredients in Apron XL® fungicide, Maxim® 4FS fungicide and Dynasty® fungicide, to deliver protection for a variety of small-seeded vegetable crops against a broad spectrum of seed and seedling diseases, such as Pythium, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Helminthosporium, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Penicillium, seedborne Sclerotinia and general damping-off and seedling blight.

FarMore F400 Watermelon seed treatment provides the first line of defense and protection against Pythium spp., Rhizoctonia spp. and Fusarium spp. seedling diseases. It consists of four active ingredients, mefenoxam (Apron XL®), fludioxonil (Maxim®), azoxystrobin (Dynasty®) and thiabendazole (Mertect® 340-F), to offer increased protection against seed-borne Fusarium in watermelon.

FarMore FI400 Brassica technology includes a combination of three proven and complementary fungicides that provide the first line of defense and protection against several key seed and seedling diseases including Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Pythium, general damping-off and seedling blight. In addition, FarMore FI400 Brassica technology contains thiamethoxam, a second generation neonicotinoid, which protects against excessive foliage damage in young plants from aphids, cabbage maggots, root maggots, flea beetles, whiteflies and wireworms.

FarMore FI400 Cucurbits technology includes a combination of three proven and complementary fungicides that provides the first line of defense against several key seed and seedling diseases including Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Pythium, general damping-off and seedling blight. In addition, FarMore FI400 Cucurbits technology contains thiamethoxam, a second generation neonicotinoid, which protects against excessive foliage damage in young plants from cucumber beetles, flea beetles, leafminers. Thiamethoxam also eliminates or reduces the chance of virus transmission by certain insects such as aphids, thrips, seedcorn maggot, wireworms and whiteflies.

FarMore FI400 Leafy offers the first comprehensive combination of separately-registered seed protection products, proprietary application technologies and dedicated seed treatment services to help lettuce growers protect their high-value crop from the start. FarMore FI400 Leafy contains mefenoxam (Apron XL®), fludioxonil (Maxim®) and azoxystrobin (Dynasty®), three proven and complementary fungicides that provide the first line of defense and protection against several key seed and seedling diseases, including Pythium damping off (caused by Pythium spp.) and seedling blight (caused by Rhizoctonia sp.).

The three fungicides in FarMore FI400 Leafy are directly or collectively effective against these pathogens and often complement genetic tolerances to the diseases they cause. Management of lettuce diseases requires a comprehensive knowledge of the pathogens, the environmental conditions and the host itself.

FarMore FI500 fungicide/insecticide offers direct-seeded onion growers early season disease and insect protection for a healthy crop start.

Containing three fungicides and two powerful seed-applied insecticides, FarMore FI500 provides a new opportunity for onion producers to protect their high-value crop from the start. Spinosad, an organic compound derived from fermentation of naturally occurring organisms, and thiamethoxam, a second generation neonicotinoid, join forces to shield onion crops from some of the most damaging early-season insects including onion maggots, seedcorn maggots and early-season activity on thrips.
