Fast-acting Advion fire ant bait from Syngenta approved for use on turf in sod farms and horse pastures

  • Complete colony control, including the queen, within 72 hours
  • Year-long control possible with two applications
  • Supported by the Advion Fire Ant Bait Guarantee

GREENSBORO, N.C., USA, Feb. 5, 2018  – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a supplemental label for Advion® fire ant bait to be used in turf on sod farms and pastures grazed by horses and other companion animals.

“Advion fire ant bait has proven to be a reliable, effective product for fire ant control in the turf market,” said Gregg Wisniewski, Syngenta insecticide brand manager for turf and ornamentals in North America. “Now sod producers and turfgrass managers can take advantage of this fast-acting bait to prevent fire ants in and around their operations.”

Advion fire ant bait controls foraging worker ants within 12 to 48 hours and delivers total colony control within 72 hours. Unlike commonly used insecticides, Advion fire ant bait does not need to be watered in and does not require contact activity. Ants will actively seek out the bait and bring it back for the entire colony to eat, including the queen.

“With only two applications needed for year-long control and low use rates, Advion fire ant bait can help save time, money and resources,” said Wisniewski. “With this economic advantage and the speed of control, this product is a powerful new addition for sod producers.”

It is important to remember when using Advion fire ant bait for sod farms and pastures grazed by horses and other companion animals, applicators must have the approved supplemental label with them at time of application.
