Our Sustainability Goal

The challenge agriculture faces is clear: to produce more food while reducing pressure on the environment. Our priority is supporting farmers in this endeavor by making every acre count through achieving higher yields with lower impact.

Higher Yields, Lower Impact

Cultivating a New Era of Agriculture – Together

Our sustainability priority reflects the reality of modern agriculture: higher yields, lower impact. These goals are not in conflict. They are inseparable. The future of agriculture depends on producing more from existing farmland while preserving the land for the next generation. As one of the first companies in the industry to commit to sustainability action, Syngenta is leading the way once again to support growers in tackling these challenges.

Higher yields

We’re committed to helping farmers get more from every acre they already farm. As global demand for food, fuel and fiber continues to grow, increasing productivity is essential to strengthening farm profitability while reducing strain on land and the environment.

Lower impact

Along the way, we help growers protect the natural resources that make farming possible. It means reducing greenhouse gas emissions – from fertilizer, methane and our own operations – and working to improve soil health, water stewardship and biodiversity.

Sustainability Business Imperatives

Syngenta is focused on three sustainability business imperatives that will help drive progress toward higher yields, lower impact – in alignment with our Portfolio Sustainability Framework. This framework provides increased transparency related to the sustainability profile of our portfolio and helps capture our company’s progress.

Imperative 1: Industry Leading Products

Our sustainability progress starts with what we put in farmers’ hands: innovative, proven products.

Our Plan:

Seeds built for resilience

Our seeds are designed to withstand heat, drought, pests and disease so that farmers can maintain and increase yield potential in the face of challenging weather conditions, and without expanding farmland.

Crop protection designed to deliver

Advanced crop protection products – developed under 'Safe by Design' principles – focus on selectivity, lower application rates and integrated end-to-end sustainability.

Biologicals supporting growth

With a growing portfolio of biocontrols, biostimulants and nutrient use efficiency products, biologicals work alongside conventional inputs, helping protect crops, helping plants thrive under stress and helping to enhance their ability to take up nutrients.

2030 Target:

43% of our crop protection portfolio in Tier 1 of the Portfolio Sustainability Framework

Imperative 2: Farmer Reach and Impact

Farmers need more than reliable products. That is why our approach to connecting with growers centers on three practical areas: building capability, improving access to insights and supporting regenerative practices.

Our Plan:

Training

Supporting farm workers with the knowledge to use products safely and responsibly.

Digital Tools

Connecting farmers to the data and insights they need for precise, informed decisions tailored to their soils and conditions.

Regenerative Agriculture

Cover crops, crop rotation, no-till, carbon sequestration and on-farm biodiversity support.

2030 Targets:

Training

Train 17 million farm workers per year

Digital Tools

Connect 247 million acres to the CROPWISE™ integrated farm management platform*

Regenerative Agriculture

Regenerative agriculture across approximately 123.6 million acres

85% seed production through regenerative agriculture

Imperative 3: Sustainable Operations

To help achieve agricultural transformation, Syngenta has clear goals for our own operations.

Our Plan:

How are we managing energy and resources?

Improving efficiency to lower operating costs, reducing exposure to volatile input markets and increasing the resilience of our manufacturing footprint and supply chain.

How are we improving emissions, water and waste?

Implementing solutions that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as water and waste management systems.

How do we make people and the supply chain a priority?

Maintaining some of the highest standards of worker safety and fair labor – in our operations and within our supply chain.

2030 Targets:

Syngenta Group to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 28% by the end of 2030, compared to the 2022 baseline.**

Syngenta AG has set a Scope 3.1 reduction target range of 10 to 15% by 2030, compared to a 2022 baseline - excluding trading.**

Syngenta Group Average Lost Time Injury Rate less than or equal to 0.15 from 2025 to 2030.

A Labor Care program implemented in all seed production and processing countries.
