New challenges and a love for learning feed Ernie Newquist’s passion for agronomy.

For Ernie Newquist, NK agronomist, being a former agricultural instructor gave him a good foundation for what is now a thriving career in agronomy. “I used to teach ag classes in the summertime. So that, combined with the agronomy classes I took in college, created interest in becoming a full-time agronomist,” said Newquist. “And now, 25 years later, agronomy is still my passion.”

When it comes to working with growers, Newquist wears a lot of hats, which means maintaining a broad knowledge base to ensure his customers are getting the best advice locally. “There’s a lot of variability in my job,” he says. “I do some training, but I troubleshoot and conduct product evaluations in the field, too. I’m always trying to figure out what’s going to work next year. What’s going to grow and what’s going to produce the best yield.” It’s a challenge he’s always up for.

Along with his dedication to all things agronomy, Newquist also enjoys exploring and understanding foreign lands, too. “I spent a few weeks in South Africa a couple of years ago and I’m planning my next oversees trip now,” he said. “And when I travel on American soil, I like to do it on my bike so I can really experience the surroundings.” Clearly, Newquist has not lost his love for learning.
