Hitting a Million-Acre Milestone

Workhorse.

Consistent.

Adaptable.

Durable.

Those are all words that growers, retailers and – heck – NK® seeds experts have used to describe S007-Y4 soybeans over the years.

Since its introduction back in 2014, NK S007-Y4 has been grown on over 1 million acres in Western Canada.

Today, the variety holds a commanding 16 per cent share of all Western soybean acres and has also found a home in Eastern Canada and the United States.

“S007-Y4 has not only been a cornerstone of the NK lineup, but of soybean growth and expansion into Western Canada,” says Allan Froese, Product Placement Scientist with Syngenta Canada. “I think what’s made it such a ‘go-to’ variety for Western growers is that it’ll handle just about anything that the season will throw at it – and perform consistently.”

Froese points to S007-Y4’s broad adaptability to a wide range of soil types and strong top-end yield that allows it to compete with longer-maturity varieties.

Data from over 1,000 competitive field trials between 2013 and 2020 shows that S007-Y4 has an average 3.5 bu/ac or 108 per cent yield advantage over competitors. It also came out on top in 75 per cent of all trials.

Yield performance aside, S007-Y4 boasts an excellent disease resistance package that combines strong phytophthora root rot and Sclerotinia white mould field tolerance – ideal for high moisture environments with poorly drained soils.

“Growers can also look forward to an easier harvest thanks to the variety’s superb standability,” notes Froese.

Major seed retailers, too, have stood up and taken notice of S007-Y4, its consistent performance and enduring popularity with their customers.

“S007-Y4 has exceeded our expectations for both its adaptability and durability,” says Peter Entz, assistant vice president of seed and traits, with Richardson International Limited. “The combination of Y4s and [S0009]-M2s have driven the business, so that NK beans are now the number one soybean brand at Richardson.”

He adds that Y4s were the top-yielding product at Richardson’s Kelburn Farm as recently as 2020, rising above 29 other competitors in the 00 maturity group.

Hitting a million-acre milestone wouldn’t have been possible without Prairie soybean growers putting their support behind S007-Y4.

We’re proud to offer experience, genetics and performance you can count on year in and year out.
