Challenges in soil health, nutrient and resource management are often site-specific – making the "one size fits all" approach rare in agriculture. Over time, trusted partners must build relationships with growers and craft tailored solutions based on farm geography, climate, crop and operation type. Syngenta supports the Sand County Foundation (SCF), helping administer and manage programs that work for growers and foster knowledge sharing.
A promising trend in this space is collaborating with farmers to improve soil health, climate resilience and farm profitability. Through its Regional Conservation Partnership Program, SCF uses a $20 million investment to help accelerate this progress by supporting flexible, customized programs led by farmer networks – enabling them to make informed decisions about resource management and other issues collectively.
Additionally, SCF works with farmers to increase soil resilience with respect to drought or flood conditions. Adopting performance-based approaches and presenting flexible options that work for growers can help address these conservation challenges and produce notable improvements in water quality. As a result, SCF administers a program that engages beginning farmers and late adopters to integrate climate-smart practices into their operations.
Syngenta’s collaboration with SCF also helps support the next generation of conservationists by bringing hands-on agricultural learning into the K-12 classroom. Students get their hands dirty, planting seeds and learning how their own efforts can transform the landscape into a pollinator-friendly environment.
