Simplot Pollinators

Partnering with CropLife America and the Wood River Land Trust to help growers save money and increase biodiversity.

The Challenge

Chemical inputs and pollinators

In order to keep aphids and other pests at bay, potato plants generally require the use of pesticides. Pollinators are attracted to potato fields, though consuming these pesticides may harm their bodies. Pollinators in general have been on a decline due to a variety of stressors including decreases in habitat and limited diversity in food sources.

The Solution

Syngenta is embarking on a journey to restore pollinator health and habitat through this collaborative project.

As a part of Operation Pollinator, Syngenta is establishing plots of native plants and wildflowers near potato fields. These plots are being monitored and pollinator data is being recorded. If successful, the plots will provide habitat for pollinator populations to thrive.

Simplot is a valued customer of Syngenta’s and is the major partner in this project. Additionally, Croplife America is contributing support, and the Wood River Land Trust is helping with implementation and farmer relations.
