New trait stack will provide farmers with tolerance to more active ingredients than any soybean trait stack in the industry
Syngenta and M.S. Technologies, L.L.C. announced the name and key details of their next-generation herbicide-tolerant soybean trait stack, Enlist E3® Expance™ soybeans, at the 2026 Commodity Classic. Anticipated for commercial availability in 2029 pending regulatory approvals, Enlist E3 Expance soybeans will offer farmers top-end yield potential paired with expanded tolerance to a broad range of trusted herbicide chemistries for more flexibility in weed control.
Enlist E3 Expance soybeans will feature:
- Tolerance to more active ingredients than any other soybean trait stack on the market, including tolerance to glyphosate, glufosinate, 2,4-D choline and multiple HPPD inhibitor chemistries
- Industry-leading preemergence HPPD inhibitor tolerance, including tolerance to mesotrione, bicyclopyrone and isoxaflutole chemistries
- Elite soybean genetics from both Syngenta and M.S. Technologies, L.L.C., accelerated through decades of advanced soybean breeding
Through wider herbicide tolerance, the technology allows for expanded weed control options in soybeans while maintaining whole-farm flexibility without added system complexity. Enlist E3 Expance soybeans will be available across multiple genetic platforms, providing growers flexibility in both trait and germplasm selection.
“Farmers need more flexibility in increasingly unpredictable planting seasons,” said Jared Benson, Head of Soybean Portfolio Strategy at Syngenta. “With the added herbicide tolerance in Enlist E3 Expance soybeans, farmers can adapt more quickly to weed control challenges by expanding their herbicide strategies to include proven chemistries already widely used in corn, without sacrificing control or performance.”
Enlist E3 Expance soybeans were first announced in August 2025, with today’s introduction building upon the distinct role this next-generation trait technology will play in the market.
“Since its formation, M.S. Technologies has been focused on developing the industry’s highest-performing soybean genetics,” said Joe Merschman, President of M.S. Technologies, L.L.C. “Enlist E3 Expance soybeans utilize our high-yielding, elite soybean genetics to deliver a robust and highly flexible weed control solution that we think will bring tremendous value to soybean growers.”
Upon regulatory approval, Syngenta plans to release commercial varieties through the Golden Harvest® and NK® Seeds brands, as well as license varieties to independent seed companies through GreenLeaf Genetics®. M.S. Technologies, L.L.C. plans to release commercial varieties through Stine® Seed Company, Merschman Seeds® and Latham® Hi-Tech Seeds, and will also license varieties through Peterson Genetics.
