Syngenta delivers new AgriPro® winter wheat variety to Eastern Corn Belt growers

  • SY 547 winter wheat variety available as certified seed to growers in the Eastern Corn Belt
  • New soft red winter wheat variety offers excellent combination of yield potential and high test weight
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, August 27, 2015 – As 2015 winter wheat planting season approaches in the Eastern Corn Belt, Syngenta urges growers to select varieties with superior genetics and to use balanced agronomic practices. Adding to a proven portfolio of AgriPro® brand wheat varieties, Syngenta is now offering SY 547, a soft red winter wheat variety.

“SY 547 is a new all-around performer as it has excelled in a broad range of yield trials in this area and offers excellent yield potential,” said Simon Phillips, key account manager, Syngenta. “All AgriPro genetics are fully tested for regional adaptation through extensive field trials including comprehensive testing of disease tolerance and agronomics.”

SY 547 offers an excellent combination of yield and test weight and is adaptable to most soil types. It offers very good stripe and leaf rust tolerance, as well as tolerance to Septoria leaf blotch. Early maturity makes it an excellent double crop option.

As winter wheat growers begin preparing for the upcoming planting season, Syngenta recommends implementing an integrated approach to crop management. Planting quality certified seed varieties and incorporating good planting practices, such as residue management, proper seeding rates and seed treatments, are critical to helping wheat start strong.

When using seed treatments like CruiserMaxx® Vibrance® Cereals insecticide/fungicide, protection begins the moment seeds are planted. As the season progresses, scouting and applying foliar fungicides become important. Growers who choose an integrated management approach may greatly benefit at harvest time, having maximized both their wheat yield and profit potential.
