NK® Soybeans outperform competitor varieties in 2015 and offer high potential for 2016: Iowa

  • The 2015 growing season provides insight for 2016 variety selection
  • Yield, sudden death syndrome at the forefront of Iowa growers’ concerns
  • NK® Soybeans performance-class varieties out-yielded Pioneer® varieties by more than 2 bu/A in Iowa trials
MINNETONKA, MN, USA, – As 2016 planting approaches, Syngenta encourages growers to reflect on the 2015 growing season. Evaluating what positively or negatively affected soybean yields one year provides insight for the next year’s management plans and variety selections.

In Iowa, fairly typical planting coupled with excellent growing and harvest seasons allowed many growers to experience an above-average soybean crop in 2015. However, sudden death syndrome (SDS) was again at the forefront of disease concerns.

Agronomically well-balanced varieties with strong SDS resistance, like grower favorite and leading maturity group 2 variety1 NK® Soybeans S20-T6 and new S30-V6 brands will provide Iowa soybean growers the opportunity to maximize yield potential in 2016. In 2015, NK Soybeans S20-T6 brand out-yielded all Pioneer® varieties by an average of 2.2 bushels per acre (bu/A) in 153 trials in Iowa. Similarly, new NK Soybeans variety S30-V6 brand out-yielded all Pioneer varieties by an average of 2.1 bu/A in 122 trials in Iowa. 1Based on independent research, 2015

“NK Soybeans were right at the top with yield,” said Marc Mummelthei, a grower in Waverly, Iowa. “We went through a little dry spell at the end of the year, but they hung in there and were one of the top three soybean crops we’ve ever grown.”

The 2016 portfolio of performance-class NK Soybeans comprises varieties ranging from very early Relative Maturity (RM) 0.0009 to late RM 7.6. Developed through the award-winning Y.E.S. Yield Engineering System™, NK Soybean varieties offer elite genetics to cover a wide array of agronomic concerns, allowing growers the opportunity to fully exploit their fields’ yield potential. Proven yield performance aligned with regionally focused defensive packages elevates soybean growers’ potential for a successful 2016 growing season.
