Growers can prepare for South’s seesaw weather conditions through seed selection

  • Syngenta agronomists advise growers to seek out NK® Corn and NK Soybeans shown to thrive in either low- or high-moisture environments
  • Agrisure Artesian® hybrids maximize yields when it rains and increase yields when it doesn’t
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, – With wet conditions early and late in the season, and dry conditions in the middle, growers in the South were challenged with striking the right balance for both their corn and their soybeans this past season. If conditions are again challenging in 2017, Syngenta agronomists are reminding growers that they can prepare by selecting hybrids and varieties that can still thrive in the toughest conditions.

“You never know what Mother Nature will bring, so it’s always best to over-prepare and avoid being caught off-guard,” said Mark Mattingly, a Syngenta product development agronomist in Tennessee. “At the end of the day, you want your crops to yield well in good weather, bad weather – and everything in between.”

The broad portfolio of NK® hybrids and varieties offers high-tech agronomic solutions for any field. Developed with a complex analytics system of research and development, NK Corn and NK Soybeans provide growers industry-leading genetics to help manage through a range of conditions. Top-of-the-line Agrisure® traits help ensure crops reach their fullest potential.

Some of the key hybrids for growers in the Delta and Southeast to consider in 2017 are:
  • N83D-3000GT brand: A broadly adapted hybrid, N83D-3000GT is a strong choice for highly productive irrigated and dryland systems. Featuring the Agrisure 3000GT trait stack, it offers protection against corn borer and corn rootworm.
  • N70J-3220A E-Z Refuge® brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, NK hybrid N70J-3220A E-Z Refuge brand maximizes yield when it rains and helps increase yields when it doesn’t. It also features the Agrisure Viptera® trait, which provides more control of more insects for more yield potential, and it is rated high for drought tolerance and seedling vigor.
Key soybean varieties include:
  • S47-K5 brand: Because of its excellent frogeye leaf spot and solid stress tolerance, Syngenta agronomists recommend S47-K5 brand for Delta growers.
  • S67-B7 brand: Recommended for Southeastern growers, S67-B7 brand features strong standability for harvest flexibility and is a solid choice on highly productive acres.
“Helping the grower optimize performance is our top priority,” said Todd McRoberts, product development agronomy manager at Syngenta. “Through a diverse portfolio of hybrids and varieties with strong agronomic backing, growers have the ability to maximize their yields season after season.”
